Special Events
Anniversary Celebration
The Anniversary Celebration is an annual event held to celebration the birthday anniversary of New Bethel Bapist Church. Since the church was established in 1827, its birthday cake holds a lot of candles (or should at least). The event is celebrated with cake and ice cream, of course, and lots of other goodies. Occassionally, it includes a homecoming of past ministers and members.
Arts and Crafts Fair
The Arts and Crafts Fair is a celebration of the creative gifts of God's children. Entrants display their works in a wide variety of disciplines and media, such as oil painting, pencil/pen drawing, sculture, fly making, quilting, and woodworking. Full membership at New Bethel Baptist Church is not a requirement. Although displayed items may be for sale, the focus is on sharing those gifts.
Blessing of the Backpacks
At the beginning of the school year, students pile their backpacks in front of the sanctuary alter for a special ceremony of blessing. The students then carry a pack full of blessing with them to school every day.
Hats and Mittens Tree
In the fall of each year, an tree is placed in a corner of the sancturary where it remains for several weeks. With excitement and facination, we watch it blossom with hats, mittens and scarves. As the weeks roll by, it gets so covered from top to bottom that it seems only the slightest breeze would cause it to topple. The hats, mittens and scarves are then donated to Edna Martin Christian Center for needy children.
Chili Supper
The annual Chili Supper is sponsored by the Board of Christian Education on the first Saturday of December. Doors are opened to the entire community to sample some of the best chili in town, along with all the toppings. This annual event includes a holiday crafts sale, bake sale, and White Elephant rummage sale. All proceeds help support edcuational programs at New Bethel Baptist Church.
Fix-Up
The Board of Trustees sponsors regular days for members to gather together to help maintain the church buildings and grounds. We dust, sweep, wipe and polish. We patch, paint, pound and screw. We laugh, cry, grunt and groan. We eat, drink and have merry fellowship, all to the glory of God.
Strawberry Festival
In June, the Strawberry Festival offers the best strawberry this side of the Mississippi offered up any mouth-watering way you like 'em. Piled high on shortcake or along side ice cream, these delectible gifts from Heaven are as tantilizing as the items featured in the White Elephant rummage sale held at the same time. All proceeds help support edcuational programs at New Bethel Baptist Church.
